Wait before the first wash
Give it 48 hours if you can. The cuticle is still settling after colouring, and washing too soon lets pigment escape before it’s properly locked in.
Turn the water down
Hot water opens the cuticle and colour washes straight out. Lukewarm to wash, cool to rinse. It is genuinely one of the highest-impact changes you can make, and it costs nothing.
Wash less often
Every wash removes some colour. Most people wash more than their hair needs. Try stretching to every second or third day — dry shampoo covers the gap, and your scalp adjusts within a couple of weeks.

UV fades colour like it fades fabric. A hat on long sunny days genuinely helps. Chlorine is worse, and it’s what turns blonde green. Wet your hair with clean water before swimming — saturated hair absorbs less pool water — and rinse straight after.
